US Power Generation Plant Uses Remote Diagnostics to Save Down Time
Originally published in First Quarter 2004 ORBIT.

A power generation plant had a vibration event on their 600 MW steam turbine generator. The plant Maintenance Manager was called at home in the middle of the night to respond to the event. The plant had established a Remote Diagnostics Coverage contract with Bently Nevada, and the Maintenance Manager called his Bently Nevada representative prior to leaving his house to initiate the remote diagnostics coverage. A Bently Nevada Machinery Diagnostic Services engineer logged onto the plant’s Bently Nevada software, identified the source of the problem, and provided recommendations to the Maintenance Manager on his cell phone as he was entering the plant. This allowed the Maintenance Manager to immediately initiate corrective actions and get the unit back on line.

The Maintenance Manager estimates that a minimum of eight hours of down time was saved by having this service available.
